Music comes from a place deep down inside of you. Meditation takes you there. In my experience over the past few years, I have found a strong connection between both of them.
As I dive deeper and deeper into this point of origin, I have had many profound experiences. One of them was around a year back when I realised that music is a form of meditation. the only difference between sitting cross-legged while focusing on your breath and playing a musical instrument is the direction in which you meditate.
Whenever we turn on a flashlight, light leaves the source spreading outwards into the darkness. If we follow the trail of light from its origin outwards, that would be the connection with your musical instrument. Conversely, if we focus on this expanse of light and keep narrowing it down to the source we will reach its origin. If music travels from the centre of a circle to its periphery then meditation hones in on the centre from the periphery. This too and fro journey is vital to reach your inner self and understand how your thoughts influence you. Just a one-way trip has always left me mentally and emotionally wavering.
Our creative endeavours and mediation are thus beautifully entangled within us and should be seen as two sides of the same coin, in my opinion. It's akin to one's soul breathing in and out through these outlets! This applies not just to music but anything you are passionate about. it could be dance, painting or any other creative pursuit. I wish you luck with your personal journey towards your very own point of origin.
Stay creative!
